About Us

We moved to Western North Carolina in 2010 chasing a dream we didn’t know we had yet. After a few years, we realized there was a limited amount of convenient fresh food at festivals and breweries. Alas, a healthier spin on the traditional food truck was born. We revolutionized the mobile fast food industry by providing more fresh and organic options in a convenient fashion.

Six years, a newborn, and a global pandemic later, our priorities started to shift and we realized a brick and mortar deli was the way to go. Residing in Little Sandy Mush with a little farm of our own, staying close to home was important to us. Therefore, we decided to bring back the idea of the old “Little Store” and its decades-long Leicester deli legacy.

At Grateful Roots, we believe that healthy food is the key to a healthy body and mind, which ultimately leads to a positive influence in the world. And although the food truck is now a thing of the past, we are very happy to be continuing our mission in supporting local farmers and vendors, and bringing quality, fresh food to our community.

The Farm

We take pride in providing high-quality, healthy and nutritious food from local sources whenever possible, including our privately owned Blue Ridge Mountain farm. With the operational capacity to grow all year round, we supply organic produce directly to our store as well as local restaurants alike, always striving for consistency and quality products.

Our skilled team handles all gardening care and maintenance, working on a wide variety of plants year round. We grow seasonal vegetables, herbs, and greens in a variety of raised bed and tilled gardens, as well as within our 18’ by 28’ temperature controlled greenhouse and nursery.

*Most items on our menu are made-to-order, so please call ahead if you are in a hurry! We might be a take-out restaurant, but we take pride in the fact that we are not “fast food”! Thanks for understanding!
